Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) is experiencing a blood shortage and is in need of donations of all blood types and platelets. During the summer months and holidays blood donations decrease. This year’s blood inventory has reached critical levels.
“We need blood donations year-round to help us care for our patients,” says Ajay Perumbeti, MD, director of Transfusion Medicine. “We strongly encourage members of our community to please make an appointment with us to donate. Tell your friends, family members and co-workers to join you so that you can make a difference and possibly save a child’s life.”

Donors need to be 17 years of age or older (photo ID required) and weigh at least 110 pounds. They must also meet criteria for recent travelers. To schedule an appointment, call 323-361-2441, or book a time online at www.chladonateblood.org. The CHLA Blood Donor Center is open Monday-Friday from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturdays from 6 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The CHLA blood mobile can work with community members, organizations, schools and companies to sponsor mobile blood drives with 40 or more blood donors.
